"BEAR" ROMERO
Bear Romero, wife Edna and son Philip, live in the red hills of Central Arizona. They are surrounded by the ancient ruins of lost civilizations. These wonders help inspire creativity as well as a sense of tranquility.
Bear was adopted by the Lakota Sioux and still lives in a traditional manner. The entire family returns to South Dakota each year to participate in the Sacred Sun Dance.
The clearly recognizable style of Bear's work, with its power, humor and intricate fetish decoration, has drawn wide interest and acclaim. Using “Arizona Ice” and “Orange Popsicle” Alabaster, he captures the spirit form of the bear, buffalo, horse and eagle evoking surprise and joy with a clear sense of the sacred.
